Brandon Oaks is a nonprofit Lifecare retirement community. Open to everyone, Brandon Oaks operates under the sponsorship of Virginia Lutheran Homes. Established in 1966, Virginia Lutheran Homes (originally Virginia Synod Lutheran Homes) serves residents in three locations: Brandon Oaks in Roanoke; Luther Manor in Virginia Beach; and Luther Crest in New Market. Our residents come from diverse faiths and backgrounds.

Our Values

We believe in and work toward:

  • Compassion, caring and tolerance for all and respect of the dignity of each individual
  • A sense of community that cultivates peace of mind and security
  • The best quality of care and services for our residents
  • Independence, as much as possible, for each and every resident
  • Accountability on the part of our staff
  • Recognition of our employee’s contributions. Acknowledging employee achievement leads to better career development, increased job satisfaction and better care for our residents.

A Tradition Almost 300 Years Old

The land on which Brandon Oaks stands was the site of a Moravian worship building, built around 1735 (the date written in berry juice inside the structure). The Moravians—early settlers of the Roanoke Valley—shared the building with Lutherans for many years as a worship site. By the time the Health Center opened in 1973, this historic structure was long gone. But the traditions of cooperation, sharing and faith live on at Brandon Oaks.
